Based on the idea that sensible architecture emerges between spatial and programmatic relationships, the project was set to instill an experience of place within the surrounding environment. Establishing a design order enabled the sustainable features of the project to fall into place and set up a natural codependency between design and sustainability. In addition to the additional landscape and trees along Sunset, the vine-growing trellis along balconies to accompany the outdoor seating for the Café, creating a welcoming alcove and entrance for the building. The building reverberates with light, shadow and transparency via a high performance exterior double skin whose semi-transparent layer of perforated stainless steel wraps the building’s glazed envelope to provide critical interior environmental control The narrow profile of the cubic spaces combined with a system of skylights ensure that users have continuous access to natural daylight.
