We were assigned to design a roof cover for the already 5 built canopy in Iran Mall. The Client -already constructing a 2 million square meters Mall- wanted a unique design in contrast to the existing structure. we have come up with a timber structure. The laminated timber columns arranged in radially climb vertically and curve to become horizontal members at the roof plane forming a parametric grid and it will be covered with membrane. the narrow paths between the canopy and greatness of the timber columns with 9 meters height on one hand and the play of light and shadow on the other hand will be a reminder of a walk in wood. the final atmosphere will be cozy and mysterious at the same time. for the parametric pattern of the structure our main focus was to the traditional motifs of Iran architecture in Islamic period. The result is made by colliding two gabled forms with a slight rotation. One of the shapes represents traditional suburban lifestyle ( with traditional masonry materials) while another represents the city lifestyle that our client wants to bring to the area.
